US-singer Brittany Bosco offers another thrilling pop blueprint (incl. free mp3s)!

Brittany Bosco entered the scene with her debut ‘Spectrum EP’ in 2008. The Savannah, Georgia native surprised promptly with her smart, genre-bending, unique approach to soulful pop music and even more with her impressive voice. As a multifaceted songstress, gifted entertainer and well-informed music lover, she had a distinctive musical vision from day one and found her own musical niche amidst diverse audible influences Such as chillwave, neo folk, jazz, opera, soul, electronica, musicals and even more epoch-spanning genres.

As an adept of Atlanta’s growing, cultural music scene, her approach to making music becomes more and more sophisticated and brilliantly witty, as displayed on her new mini album ‘The Scene’. The LP is a collection of movie score inspired vocal movements, that sound exciting and mind-altering, yet catchy and sorcerous – just what you’d expect from the next CocoRosie album: a mixture of analog and electronic instrumentation, opera and other singing styles, unusual songwriting and an overarching dense atmosphere of magic.

The thrilling music is defined by Brittany’s extraordinary, classically trained voice and the inspiring production work of Balmorhea, KC Accidentials (Broken Social Scene), Omar Ferrer and Bosco herself. This EP is truly exceptional and became an instant favourite of ours. Take a listen to the jazzy/Broadway musical-like ‘Won’t Give’ and the operatic pop sensibilities of ‘June’ and grab your free downloads of these gems via the bandcamp players below:

Here’s the thing about Brittany Bosco (and I’ll keep it short)…while talented, her musical style/sound simply doesn’t resonate with enough people for her to have the appeal she so desperately craves. She’s about 10-15 years too late. The Trip Hop/Neo Soul train has long since come and gone and she doesn’t seem to get that. I’m not saying that she should change who she is to cater to a newer audience, I’m simply stating that her sound is dated and unfortunately that fan base is no longer large enough to support new talent in that genre. I’m sure she’ll continue to make music and do shows locally/regionally, but don’t expect much commercial success with Bosco. Times have changed.

      Dear MegaWATT A&R,

Thanks for your remarks on Brittany Bosco. In general, we don’t specifically look for artists that necessarily attract the mainstream, we rather present up-and-coming talents and quality music from a variety of genres. Still we feel that a lot of artists we present, deserve a larger recognition and are catchy enough to cross over into the mainstream – and we’d include Bosco in this category.

All the best from the Mixed Tape editorial team.

Maybe you should take a gander by listening to her most recent material, I find it hard to make such rash decision based on her most recent EP “Pacer”, which I find enjoyable. But that’s just my opinion. Check it out

There’s definitely a market for BOSCO, especially from the most recent EP I’ve listen to “Pacer” (which was exceptional btw). With that particular project (Pacer) you see the evolvement, growth, and capabilities that this young talented artist possess. It’s a new sound! These songs displayed on this blog show only a small portion of what she’s capable and mostly known for. However, I don’t feel they define her sound nor represent it entirely.

I’m thoroughly impressed with Ms. Brittany. A friend had forward me her new project Pacer, which is awesome. My favorite tracks are “Beauty and The Stone” and “Pacer”. She’s amazing. It’s so different from her other project a few years back Spectrum, which had a great neo soul/ jazz type feel. However, every artist should continue to grow an experiment with different sounds. I feel she’s found herself. I really wish her much success and I know she’s going to conqueror this music industry. No doubt about it.
