Sonnymoon (Mixed Tape 32) deliver a fine foretaste of their new LP (incl. free mp3s)

We just received news from the Boston duo Sonnymoon, who was featured on our Mixed Tape ‘Orange Distortion’ with their sublime ‘Run Away’. You should follow this link and watch the equally bodacious animated video clip by Lauren Santorio.

The band is currently working on their sophomore LP, which will be released via Los Angeles quality outlet Plug Research Records, for which they’ve recently remixed Bilal’s ‘Levels’. From what we’ve heard so far the vocalist Anna Wise and producer Dane Orr, both graduates of the prestigious Berklee School of Music, maintain the successful stylistic formula of their debut – a mixture of electronica, experimental pop, ambient, glitch and hip hop beats in a post Dilla vein with a perceptible influence from artists like Flying Lotus, Björk and Little Dragon. The result sounds forward-thinking yet catchy.

Listen to their new tracks ‘Blast Off’ and ‘Yes’ and claim your free download via the www.soundcloud.com players below. While ‘Blast Off’ is dominated by a dub-like sinus bassline, a stumbling beat, Anna’s angelic voice and a talented guest MC, the Beyoncé cover ‘Yes’ sounds like a spaced out, downtempo Fly-Lo style beat (ca. ‘Los Angeles’ phase) with drone sounds and a sweet and soulful vocal delivery by Anna.
