Notic Nastic is an electro punk act which was featured on our Mixed Tape 20 with their party track ‘Party Lights’. The enigmatic collective consists of members from New York and Berlin and is known for its rebellious and energetic take on dancefloor pop and its extravagant appearances. As the associated musicians prefer to remain anonymous, they chose a graceful and mysterious front lady as visual representative on stage and in videos with immense effect: her hypnotic stage presence and high energy performances combined with outlandish make-up and clever mise-en-scène serve as eye candy …
Just as in their new video ‘Cyanide’ – which was directed by Natalie Van Sasse Van Ysselt and spiced up with the fancy styling by make-up artist/stylist Gerda Postma. The video shows the singer trapped in a pyramid that represents the confinements of societal structures. A fight is going on between two sides of one person, between good an evil, between one’s true self and the persona that is expected from the outside world – until finally, the self-imprisoned character manages to break out.
These images perfectly match the lyrical content as well as the music with its distinctive dark notes, gnarled synths and hard hitting industrial electro beats contrasting the almost alien-like sensuality of the front lady.
