We got news from J. Baracuz, the Berlin based producer who was featured on our Mixed Tape 24 with ‘Michèle Track’. In addition we got some more free downloads for you!
J. Baracuz released his debut album ‘Lasergun Romances’ in 2006. The album was full of sample-based compositions between instrumental hip hop à la DJ Shadow and glitchy beats inspired electronica in the vein of Forss and Dimlite. Shortly after Baracuz took a break from his music life to study, travel, dig for records and find himself. In late 2010 he started producing again and finished several tracks that were bundled for his new EP ‘A Contemporary Witness’, which was released in late October and marks the beginning of his new creative period.
The whole EP is based on excerpts of organic music and impresses with detailed and meticulously precise production. The opening track ‘The Overture’ is juggling with string and piano samples which are accentuated by vibrant breakbeats. Altogether it creates a dramatic tension which is dissipated from time to time by serene folky vocals.
